Capen Excels, But Dust Devils Win
|
San Antonio designated hitter John Capen had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Capen went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3, even as Kansas City beat the Stallions, 8-7. San Antonio, at 39-80, has lost 5 straight.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Brad Plank to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dust Devils on top, 8-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Kansas City manager Jaden White.
