Desperados Handed 5-2 Loss by Newark
|
Newark Flyers starter Kyle Sandor hurled his team past the Santa Rosa Desperados, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Sandor, now 11-6. He tossed 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 5. Keith Jong earned his 20th save in 25 chances.
The Flyers got a big at-bat from second baseman Fernando Espindola. For the game, Espindola was 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Newark a 4-2 lead.
Espindola called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
With the victory, the Flyers upped their record to 68-43.
