Jet Hawks Turn Back Flyers, 3-2
|
The Grand Rapids Jet Hawks rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Josh Williams to a win, beating the Newark Flyers, 3-2, at Newark Fields. Williams picked up the win for Grand Rapids, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 5-1. The first-place Jet Hawks are now 66-38, the Flyers 53-51.
Grand Rapids took a 3-0 lead on Leo Gracia's 7th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Gracia hit in the top of the seventh, left Newark pitcher John Huber visibly frustrated.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Newark manager Matt Conners. "We just didn't cash in."
