Blue Jays Turn Back Deltas, 3-2
The St. Catharines Blue Jays rode a solid performance from 25-year-old starting pitcher Juan Martinez to a win, beating the Deltaville Deltas, 3-2, at Engineers Ballpark. Martinez, now 4-5, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Andy Mahoney was credited with the save, his 4th in 5 tries.

The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from center fielder Jay Kowalski. For the game, Kowalski went 1-4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 8th double of the season gave St. Catharines a 3-0 lead.

"That's how you're going to be successful," said Blue Jays manager Freddy Coss. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."

The Deltas, now 48-54, have lost 5 straight.
