Herd Stars for Jet Hawks in 9-3 Win
|
The Grand Rapids Jet Hawks defeated the Cottage City Cannonballers, 9-3, at Cannonballers Ballpark. Caleb Herd, who is tied for 7th in the N-A in home runs with 18, was a standout performer for Grand Rapids. His 4 hits included 3 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 3 he knocked in. The winner was Jonathan Lamas, who threw 76 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits. The Cannonballers, now 26-70, have lost 4 in a row.
Grand Rapids used the hitting of Jake Rogers to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Jet Hawks on top, 3-0. For the game, Rogers had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Herd told the Grand Rapids Chronicle.
