St. Catharines turned a good performance from starting pitcher Juan Cotto into a 3-1 triumph over the Newark Flyers at Engineers Ballpark. The save went to Andy Mahoney, his 3rd this season. St. Catharines goes to 58-37, Newark to 48-47.

Sean Gery had a big 3-run home run for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Catharines trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Tyler Bourassa and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Blue Jays on top, 3-1.

Cotto attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
