Tampa pitcher Rick Cortez had a large part in his team subduing the Grand Rapids Jet Hawks, 5-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Tampa has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
Tampa used a clutch at-bat from Alberto Torres to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Capitals ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Nice to keep stacking the wins," said Torres.
