Flyers Deal Desperados 3-1 Loss
|
Newark Flyers pitcher Alex Martinez was in fine form, leading his team past the Santa Rosa Desperados, 3-1. In 7.2 innings, Martinez surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Keith Jong got the save, the 13th for him this season.
Fernando Espindola had a big 2-run triple for the Flyers in the top of the second inning. With Newark leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Dan Rank, who is tied for 10th in the N-A with a 9.7 K/9 rate, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Flyers ahead, 3-0.
"Alex did a good job of managing their lineup," said Newark manager Matt Conners.
The Flyers improved their record to 48-30 by beating Santa Rosa.
