Capitals Earn Late 4-3 Win
|
The Huntsville Rockets got a sterling performance from pitcher Joe Brackett, but the Tampa Capitals still prevailed, 4-3. Brackett threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Reliever Eric Volmar picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Rich Sargent took the loss. Gabe Thomas notched his 13th save in 17 chances.
Had Elijah Lewis not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Lewis hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Capitals.
Lewis called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
Tampa is 5th in the Northern A East Division with a record of 37-31.
