Flyers Lose, 4-1, as Miners Rally
|
Newark got a terrific performance from pitcher Brad Porretta, but it wasn't enough to beat the Glace Bay Miners. Glace Bay won the Newark Fields contest, 4-1. Porretta threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The winner was Glace Bay reliever Josh Parrish, now 1-1. The loser was Keith Jong. Tim Peters locked down his 1st save.
Glace Bay used a timely hit from Trevor Cunningham to get the win. The left fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Miners ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Glace Bay manager Angel Cano. "It's usually not just one thing."
The defeat makes Newark 41-24.
