Flyers Win, 8-3, in Extra Frames
|
The Newark Flyers picked up a win at Cannonballers Ballpark, downing the Cottage City Cannonballers, 8-3, in 12 innings. On the mound for Newark was left-hander Brad Porretta, who played a pivotal role in the win. Aaron Wakefield, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. The Flyers sport a record of 39-22.
Fernando Espindola went 3 for 6 with 3 singles and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Newark. The 22-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 12th. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Jim Unknown. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.
"If you're not prepared, it's not pressure you feel, it's fear," mused Newark manager Matt Conners.
