The Glace Bay Miners overcame a pretty good performance by St. Catharines right fielder Jim Applegate, beating the Blue Jays, 5-4, at Miners Memorial Bowl. Applegate was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times. Glace Bay reliever Jeremiah Porter picked up the win to move to 2-0. Greg Mortenson suffered the loss. Steve Oswald closed it out for Glace Bay, earning his 5th save.
Glace Bay took a 5-3 lead on Charlie Harrison's 3rd home run of the season. The solo home run, which Harrison hit in the bottom of the eighth, left St. Catharines pitcher B.B. Berube shaking his head.
"Enjoyed this one," Harrison told the Glace Bay Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
With the win, the Miners sit at 35-18.
