9 Straight Wins for Flyers
Starting pitcher Heath Maughn pitched well enough to help the Newark Flyers beat the Huntsville Rockets, 5-3. The Flyers own a robust 36-10 mark.

The Rockets had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Flyers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old first baseman Steve Gunnells came to the plate. Gunnells hit a 3-run home run on a 2-2 changeup from Huntsville hurler John Hennig. It was Gunnells's 14th home run of the year.

"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Gunnells told the Newark Bulletin.
