The Kansas City-Grand Rapids matchup turned into a slugfest.

The Kansas City Dust Devils overcame a pretty good performance by Grand Rapids second baseman Caleb Herd, beating the Jet Hawks, 13-10, at Jet Hawks Ballpark. Herd went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Jim Unknown earned the save for Kansas City, his 1st.

Kansas City used the bat of Tyler Mardis to get the win. The first baseman spanked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Dust Devils ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it altered the outcome.

Grand Rapids manager Sadayuki Nishikawa said he was disappointed with the loss. "Whenever you score in double digits, you expect to win the game."
