Ambassadors Pin 2-1 Loss on Tampa
|
The Fremont Ambassadors topped the Tampa Capitals, 2-1, at Ballpark of Fremont. Fremont pitcher Gregg Cuevas was a spark plug for the offense. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Jim Unknown, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The Ambassadors, with only their 7th win in 27 games, could be the worst team in the league.
Had Jimmy Kimmel not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kimmel hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Ambassadors.
"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Ambassadors manager John McNair.
