The Newark Flyers picked up a win at Miners Memorial Bowl, knocking off the Glace Bay Miners, 2-0. Starting pitcher Ryan Johnson played a key role in the triumph. Johnson got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed no runs. The save went to Jason Gaiser, number 6 for him.
Amare Jackson had a direct impact on the outcome. Jackson contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Newark up, 2-0.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Jackson told the Newark Gazette.
The win gives Newark a record of 15-7.
