Miners Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
The Glace Bay Miners weathered a fine game by Santa Rosa third baseman Matt Evert to upend the Desperados, 5-4, at Miners Memorial Bowl. Evert belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Glace Bay reliever Steve Oswald snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ryan Arntz shouldered the loss. Early on, the Miners, at 14-1, have excelled.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 11th for Glace Bay. That's when J.R. Daniels, who is tied for 4th in the N-A with a .375 batting average, hit a run-scoring double off Ryan Arntz to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Glace Bay field general Angel Cano.
