The Santa Rosa Desperados rode a solid performance from 19-year-old starting pitcher Justin Hesley to a win, beating the Glace Bay Miners, 3-1, at Miners Memorial Bowl. The winner in relief was John Salgado. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Jason Hiner picked up his 3rd save of the season.
Santa Rosa won the game in part because of Greg Biever. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Desperados ahead, 1-0. For the game, Biever had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Watch and learn," said Biever. "This is what good pitching looks like."
With the win, Santa Rosa elevates its record to 8-4.
