The Tampa Capitals inaugurated the 2022 campaign with a disappointing 3-1 loss to the Fremont Ambassadors at Capitals Ballpark. Fremont pitcher Gregg Cuevas had a big impact on the outcome. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Mike Brandon picked up the win in relief for Fremont, while Luke Lodge took the loss.

Fremont needed the clutch hitting of Javy Villapando to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ambassadors on top, 3-1. For the game, Villapando had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Fremont manager John McNair. "It's usually not just one thing."
