Libertyville beat Alcoa in a rain-soaked ballgame.

A good performance from third baseman Jeff Bernard helped the Libertyville Polecats defeat the Alcoa Millionaires, 8-2. Bernard was 2 for 4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Polecats. Libertyville reliever John Chapin snagged the win, upping his record to 3-2. Manny Vega shouldered the loss.

With Libertyville leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Bernard came up to bat against Alcoa pitcher Manny Vega. Bernard hit a fastball to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Polecats on top, 7-2.

Bernard attributed the win to his team's "dogged determination."

The Polecats raised their record to 43-89.
