Mountaineers Get Past Libertyville, 3-2
|
Libertyville got a valiant performance from pitcher Eddie Carver, but it wasn't enough to beat the Winchester Mountaineers. Winchester won the game, 3-2. Carver threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Winchester reliever Steve Gryder snagged the win, upping his record to 8-2. Jim Unknown shouldered the loss. Winchester, now 68-26, has won 11 straight games.
John Hall was 1-3 with a walk for Winchester. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Hall, who is tied for 3rd in the E-AA in RBI with 57, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Libertyville hurler Jim Unknown, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead.
"Young guys to old guys," said Hall, "we're all going out there and doing what it takes to win."
