Mountaineers Topple Yard Dogs, 8-4
|
The Winchester Mountaineers knocked off the Mobile Yard Dogs, 8-4, in Eastern AA action at Mountaineers Park. Winchester pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Jorge Salazar had an outstanding performance. In 5.1 innings, Salazar surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. The Mountaineers have an impressive 74-15 record.
Adrian Hernandez, the Winchester designated hitter, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 2-0, Mountaineers. For the game, Hernandez went 1 for 3 with 2 walks. He scored 2 runs.
Winchester manager Mitchell Young commended his team for "putting the pedal to the metal."
