The inspired effort of Tucson center fielder Mike Monia was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-4, to the Randolph Prairie Thunder. Monia went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Joaquin Lira picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 9-0. The win puts Randolph at 34-11 this season.
Randolph got a big at-bat from Huntsville, Texas native John Whitney, who in the bottom of the sixth hit a run-scoring triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Prairie Thunder ahead, 2-1.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Whitney said.
