The Walnut Park Bobcats got a superb performance from pitcher Keith Jong, but the Westwood Bruins still won the game, 5-3. Jong threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Westwood reliever Bobby Corbo was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Heath Johnston. With the win over Walnut Park, the Bruins improved to 17-23.
Westwood needed the clutch hitting of Armando Gomez to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bruins on top, 4-3. For the game, Gomez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Gomez after the game.
