Bobcats Win, 6-1, at New Rochelle
|
The Walnut Park Bobcats defeated the New Rochelle Purple Wave, 6-1, in part because of designated hitter Steve Gunnells. Gunnells went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Bobcats. Keith Jong was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 1 run on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. With the loss, New Rochelle sinks to 12-13.
Walnut Park took a 4-1 lead on Gunnells's 2nd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Ricky Valdez in the top of the sixth, propelled Walnut Park to the win.
In comments to the Walnut Park News, Gunnells insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
