Spokane got a terrific game from first baseman Mark Payne. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Denver, 7-4. Payne was 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Luis Diaz went 5.1 innings for Denver to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 1 run. He scattered 3 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. His record improves to 1-1. The loss puts Spokane at 12-13.
The Pilots got an important contribution from center fielder Gilberto Vieyra, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a first pitch slider into right for a bases-clearing triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Pilots ahead, 3-1.
"We'll build on this win," said Vieyra.
