The Palm Springs Heat went down to defeat to Dave Barncord and his Denver teammates. The final score was 2-1, Pilots, in 11 innings. Denver reliever Juan Santana was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Isiah Hamlin took the loss. The Pilots, with just their 7th win in 23 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Dale Coffey in the bottom of the 11th. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Isiah Hamlin to win it for Denver and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"The old adage is true," said Coffey. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
