Purple Wave Top Bruins to Even Record
|
The Westwood Bruins could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Randy Lupton into a win. Instead, the New Rochelle Purple Wave prevailed, 6-0. Lupton threw 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs. Pat Daughtry, the winner, goes to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Vince Zamora got credit for the save for New Rochelle. It was his 2nd of the year.
New Rochelle took a 5-0 lead on Danny Haessly's 7th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Haessly hit in the top of the ninth, left Westwood pitcher Justin Weil visibly frustrated.
Said losing manager Hasan Raif: "Give the Purple Wave credit. They played a better game than we did."
With the win, New Rochelle boosts its record to 12-12.
