Westwood pitcher Dustin Engstrom had a large part in his team beating the Hickory Crawdads, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Engstrom, now 2-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Danny Martinez sewed up the save, his 5th.

Westwood designated hitter Mike Weiss contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Bruins ahead, 3-1.

Engstrom attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."

The Crawdads fall to 9-12 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2023 season.
