The home team gave the crowd at University of Maine Stadium something to cheer about.
The Orono Oaks stifled the New Rochelle Purple Wave, 5-1, at University of Maine Stadium. Ian Cason, who is tied for 5th in the StC in stolen bases with 5, had his hitting cap on. He was 3 for 4 with 3 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for Orono. Erik Ashley was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Tim Kondas closed it out for Orono, earning his 1st save.
The Oaks got a big at-bat from catcher Kevin Morrow. For the game, Morrow was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Orono a 2-0 lead.
"Very good win for our guys," said Morrow.
New Rochelle drops to 10-10.
