Fans who congregated at Jackie Robinson Stadium were treated to extra-inning drama.

The Westwood Bruins got a superb performance from shortstop John Whitney, but the Orono Oaks still won the game, 6-4. Whitney went 5-5 with a triple, 2 doubles, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Tim Kondas earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record is now 3-2.

Orono needed the clutch hitting of Gene Flood to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Oaks on top, 6-4. For the game, Flood had 2 home runs and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Flood.

The win puts Orono at 11-6.
