Spokane Selects starter Jonathan Higginbotham pitched a strong game against the New Rochelle Purple Wave at Ballpark of Lexington, leading the Selects to victory, 7-1. Higginbotham, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The loss drops the Purple Wave to 6-7.
Spokane used the hitting of Mark Payne to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Selects on top, 3-0. For the game, Payne had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
