The Hickory Crawdads got a superb performance from pitcher Chad Bendon. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Fremont. The Marshalls won the game, 2-1. Bendon threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Fremont reliever Jody Fouse picked up the win to move to 1-0. Roy Doub suffered the loss. The loss lowers the Hickory record to 3-6.

Fremont used a clutch hit from Tyler Reese to get the win. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Marshalls ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Reese.
