Fighting Quakers Sneak Past Heat, 6-5
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Palm Springs Heat home opener. Mike Parker started for the home team against Chris Stoddard for the Quebec Fighting Quakers. The Heat were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-5, Quebec. Josh Gillespie, though, was impressive. Quebec pitcher Chris McAuley got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Michael Hatten got the loss. Nick Dragon nailed down his 1st save.
Had Gillespie not come through in the top of the 12th, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Gillespie hit a run-scoring double. The Fighting Quakers took the lead, 6-5, and never looked back.
"If we keep winning the close games," Gillespie said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
