With 6-4 Win, Matadors Go to 91-52
|
Laredo right fielder Jimmy Sholl was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Hartford beat the Ghosts, 6-4. Andrew Severson picked up the win, lifting his record to 14-5 on the season. He struck out 6 and walked 1 in 7.1 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Ricky Hill earned the save for Hartford, his 22nd of the year.
Steve Doyle had a big run-scoring double for the Matadors in the bottom of the third inning. With Hartford leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Andy Firkins and swatted a double to right. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Matadors ahead, 3-1.
Hartford manager Jesse Heugly commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
The Matadors, at 91-52, have now won 4 straight.
