Getting offensive support from Morgan Vitulli, the Portland Mad Ants topped the Montreal Royals, 5-3. Vitulli went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Mad Ants. Rich Wilkinson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 29th save. The second-place Mad Ants hiked their record to 74-59.

Vitulli broke a deadlock in the bottom of the eighth inning, when he drew a walk, driving in 1 run, putting Portland up, 4-3.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Portland manager Efren Nieman.
