Canadiens Upend Muskies, 5-4
|
The Montreal Canadiens picked up a win at Field of the Muskies, knocking off the Glendale Muskies, 5-4. On the mound for Montreal was left-hander Jeff Groves. He played a key role in the triumph. Groves, the winner, moves to 4-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up no walks. Jacob Hodge wrapped it up, recording his 3rd save.
Mike Smith had a big 2-run home run for the Canadiens in the top of the first inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Derek Moke and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Canadiens on top, 3-0.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Smith. "And not try to do too much."
The win gives the Canadiens a record of 34-95.
