The Baxter Springs Marshals defeated the Hartford Matadors, 8-7. Left Fielder Brandon Titus deserved a large share of the credit. Titus was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Marshals. Alessio Monti snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 2.1 innings. He's now 5-3 on the season. The second-place Marshals bumped their record to 72-55.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Titus delivered big-time for Baxter Springs, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Ricky Hill. The game-changing hit put the Marshals on top, 8-7.
"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Titus told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
