Portland pitcher John Sherline did his part in helping his team beat the Fremont Marshalls, 6-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Portland is third in the Stars Conference West Division with a record of 64-62.

Eric Alvarado had a big run-scoring triple for the Mad Ants in the bottom of the third inning. With Portland leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Brian Gay, who is tied for 10th in the SC in quality starts with 14, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 5th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mad Ants ahead, 3-1.
