Nashville Wins, 6-5, Over Tailgators
The Chesapeake Tailgators and Nashville Lasers provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Nashville Lasers withstood an impressive performance by Chesapeake shortstop John Whitney to defeat the Tailgators, 6-5, at Lasers Ballpark. Whitney was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Nashville reliever Joel Racinowski picked up the win, upping his record to 3-5. Rick Gregg absorbed the loss. Malcolm Freeman notched his 22nd save in 25 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Chris Van Noort came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Chesapeake pitcher Rick Gregg, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Nashville on top, 6-5.

"It never gets old," said Van Noort. "Winning, that is."

The loss makes Chesapeake 64-57.
