Turtles Ballpark was the site of a tense game between the Fremont Marshalls and Montreal Royals.

In a low-scoring contest between the Montreal Royals and the Fremont Marshalls, 23-year old right-handed pitcher Marty Matthews proved to be the difference. The Montreal right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Royals win. In 6.1 innings, Matthews surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Vince Rice got credit for the save for Montreal. It was his 13th of the year.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when second baseman Justin Sinclair, who is tied for 3rd in the SC in triples with 5, hit a triple. The Royals went on to win.

"The old adage is true," said Sinclair. "Good pitching stops good hitting."

The first-place Royals lifted their record to 80-39.
