Perez Goes Off, But Stampede Win
The Lubbock Stampede weathered a fine game by Montreal third baseman Roberto Perez to upend the Royals, 7-5, at Reagor Dykes Stadium. Perez belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Lubbock pitcher Chris Casady got the win, upping his record to 15-6. George Wilson got the loss. Paul Garcia was credited with the save, his 29th in 32 tries.

In the top of the ninth, Nate Jones stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Royals were trailing 7-5, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Paul Garcia made a terrific pitch and Jones struck out. Gone was the dream of a Montreal comeback.

The Stampede improved their record to 59-61 with the win over Montreal.
