Joilet got a decent performance from pitcher Justin Berry, but it wasn't enough to beat the Fremont Marshalls. Fremont won the Ballpark of Joilet contest, 5-4. Berry threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. The win was credited to Chris Gabbitas in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Kyle O'Hare took the loss. Jonathan Reeher earned his 24th save, after closing out the game.
Fremont used the clutch hitting of Jim Gavilanes to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Marshalls ahead, 5-4. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"This was a good win," said Gavilanes.
The first-place Marshalls improved to 66-49.
