Marshals Send Fremont Home with 5-3 Loss
|
The Baxter Springs Marshals defeated the Fremont Marshalls, 5-3, at Hedgehogs Park. Baxter Springs was led by 24-year old second baseman Jon Olejniczak, who went 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. The winning pitcher was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Ricardo Alvarado. He tossed 98 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Baxter Springs, now 66-47, holds down second place in the Stars Conference East Division.
George Hutchison had a big 2-run home run for the Marshals in the top of the third inning. With Baxter Springs leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Matt Brown, who is tied for 6th in the SC in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Marshals on top, 5-2.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Olejniczak.
