Stampede Come Up Short at Hartford, 5-4
|
The Hartford Matadors picked up a win at Ballpark of Tacoma, topping the Lubbock Stampede, 5-4. On the mound for Hartford was right-hander John Bickel. He played a principal role in the triumph. Bickel yielded 4 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-3. Jesus Fernandez finished to wrap up his 26th save.
Austin Alpers cracked a home run off Tim Covert in the bottom of the first. His 3-run blast put the Matadors on top, 3-1. In all, Alpers had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly.
