One Run Not Enough for Ghosts
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Baxter Springs Marshals and the Laredo Ghosts, 30-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Warren was the difference-maker. The Baxter Springs right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Warren, now 7-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Jeremy Reyner was credited with the save, his 8th in 10 tries.
The Marshals got a big at-bat from left fielder George Sweeton. For the game, Sweeton went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Baxter Springs a 2-0 lead.
"I like what I saw today," said Baxter Springs manager Mitsuaki Sakaguchi, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Baxter Springs is now 55-56, while Laredo is 52-59.
