The Fremont Marshalls defeated the Baxter Springs Marshals, 3-1, in 12 innings in Stars Conference action at Marshals Ballpark. Fremont pitcher Mike Martinez had a standout performance. Fremont is in first place in the Stars Conference West Division with a record of 60-46.
Martinez was effective for Fremont, seldom allowing the Marshals to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 96 pitches over 8.1 innings. He limited Baxter Springs to just 1 run on 4 hits.
"Mike was the difference maker. He was emotionally under control, had good stuff and makeup," said Fremont manager Matt Blade.
