Matadors Beat Tailgators, 6-4
|
The 6-4 Hartford win over Chesapeake was due in large part to Willie Kirkham. The Matadors left fielder was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Hartford reliever Terry May picked up the win, while Francisco Elizalde took the loss for Chesapeake. Jesus Fernandez recorded his 24th save for Hartford.
Hartford took a 6-2 lead on Kirkham's 16th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which he hit off Francisco Elizalde in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Hartford to the win.
"Enjoyed this one," Kirkham told the Hartford Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The Stars Conference West Division-leading Matadors are 66-40.
