Royals Win in Extras, 5-4
|
Montreal starter Alec Wright pitched well against the Portland Mad Ants at Turtles Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. The first-place Royals, at 61-40, now lead their division by 3½ games.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 30-year old catcher Danny Flores had a chance to be the hero. Portland pitcher Bernie Hernandez wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Flores hit a sacrifice fly. The Royals had themselves a thrilling win.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Wright said in his postgame press conference.
