Hartford beat Chesapeake in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Hartford Matadors topped the Chesapeake Tailgators, 11-5, with first baseman Steve Doyle playing a big role. Doyle went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Matadors in the win. Andrew Severson got the win, improving to 9-5. He held the Tailgators to 4 runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Rick Lee earned the save for Hartford, his 1st.

With Hartford leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Doyle hit a splitter from Nick Douglass for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Matadors ahead, 4-0.

"We hit the ball hard," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly. "Line drive after line drive."

Hartford sits in second place in the Stars Conference West Division at 57-42.
