Marshals Claim 3-1 Triumph
|
The Baxter Springs Marshals downed the Portland Mad Ants, 3-1, at Mad Ants Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Oscar Ayala had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the SC with a 1.09 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Baxter Springs reliever Joe Miller, now 1-0. The loser was George Robertson. Salvatore Barajas nailed down the save.
George Sweeton came through with a big-time hit for Baxter Springs. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Oscar pitched like a champ," said Baxter Springs manager Mitsuaki Sakaguchi.
With the win, Baxter Springs goes to 47-52, while the Mad Ants fall to 48-51.
